Get Help with Canvas

If you have technical questions about Canvas you can book a one-on-one with a Canvas specialist on our bookings page. Appointments are available Tuesday through Friday, 9am to 4pm, pending staff availability.

Have more course-design type questions or want to check in with a peer faculty who has been using Canvas already? Email iteach@sfsu.edu to get connected to a Canvas Coach, a faculty member who has been using Canvas this semester who may have already encountered the hurdles you are attempting to overcome.

As a reminder, you can always call the main help line at 415-405-5555, without an appointment, for quick questions.

Renovate and elevate your Canvas course

In this asynchronous course, instructors will scaffold, reinforce, and reimagine Canvas courses to streamline and organize content in dynamic ways. Academic Technology’s Teaching and Learning with Technologies and Services Teams constructed this course as a blueprint for elevating instructor's Canvas courses from starter homes to dream homes by providing insights, resources, and peer discussion opportunities on course redesign.

An optional digital badge will be awarded to those that complete the course requirements.

Bridging Canvas

This fully online, self-paced and asynchronous course is designed to support faculty in transitioning to Canvas. The course offers resources, activities and discussions for faculty adjusting their pedagogical and course design approaches to a new LMS.

Growing with Canvas

Any faculty member who has opted-in a class to use Canvas for the Summer 2022, Fall 2022, or Spring 2023 semesters or has requested a sandbox also has access to a Canvas training course called Growing with Canvas. This course will guide faculty through using Canvas to build out a course, and is divided up into 6 distinct modules that cover different functionality within the system.

Note: Each module in "Growing with Canvas" takes an estimated 45 to 60 minutes to complete. There are approximately 8 hours worth of content in this course, but you do not need to do it all at once. "Growing with Canvas" is designed to be self-paced, and you can work through it as quickly or as slowly as you would like.

Passport to Canvas (Students)

Any student officially enrolled in a class that has been opted-in to Canvas for the Summer 2022, Fall 2022, or Spring 2023 semesters has access to a Canvas training course called Passport to Canvas. This course will guide students through using Canvas from a student perspective.
