Issue 5: Preparing for Spring 2023
As the campus prepares for Spring 2023, we want to highlight to faculty that all spring courses will automatically be added to Canvas by default and not iLearn (unlike this fall).
Not ready to move to Canvas yet? No problem. You will simply need to go to the Classdata website and log in to move your courses from the Canvas column back to the iLearn column. This video will walk you through considerations for whether to use Canvas or iLearn this coming semester.
Project information and support
Faculty, students and staff looking for more information on the Canvas transition project should visit https://canvas.sfsu.edu. This site is the central repository of all information about the project, including timelines, support and workshop opportunities, support documentation, and more. As a reminder, the campus will fully move to Canvas in Fall 2023.
The support document website also has a list of all Canvas specific guides, with more being added regularly based on requests and questions coming in to the Canvas transition team. There is also a community forum where faculty, staff and students can post general questions and feedback on the project as a whole.
Workshops for Spring 2023
The Canvas transition team will host daily workshops beginning the week of January 9th through January 27th. A full list of workshops and registration information is available on the Canvas website. The last workshop for the Fall will be on Course Design Using Canvas on Tuesday, December 13 at 11:00am.
As always, faculty are encouraged to contact the main AT Services email (at@sfsu.edu) or phone number (415-405-5555) for general questions about Canvas. If you have a specific question about a specific class, you can also book a one on one appointment with a Canvas specialist. Note that one-on-one appointments will not be available during the campus closure for the winter, the week of December 26 through January 2nd. Regular appointments will resume on January 3, 2023.
Student perspectives on the Canvas transition
On Wednesday, December 7, 2022, the Academic Technology Advisory Council hosted a panel discussion with four students on their perspectives on the Canvas transition. This session was recorded and is posted on the Canvas website.
