Overview

Description: This course is designed specifically for SFSU staff looking to integrate generative AI in your daily work. Learn how to prepare for effective and responsible AI use, write goal-oriented prompts to accomplish particular work tasks, evaluate AI-generated content for quality and reliability, and refine outputs to enhance efficiency and productivity in your professional context. Participants will engage in hands-on activities with Microsoft Copilot or ChatGPT Edu to employ strategies in real-world work scenarios, share practical insights and use cases with peers, and assess additional opportunities for integrating generative AI tools in specific practice areas.

This course is an elective for the digital badge for the AI Literacy Education Program, and is recommended specifically for SFSU staff.

Objectives: In this course, you will learn to:

Overview

Description: This course offers an exploration of visual generative AI (GenAI) tools for image and design generation. Participants will gain a primer on visual GenAI tools, considerations for using GenAI, and some best practices for creating effective and accessible designs. Through hands-on activities, participants will develop skills in crafting descriptive prompts and selecting appropriate visual styles to generate unique images using Adobe Firefly. Additionally, they will learn how to generate visual elements to be incorporated into designs using Adobe Express.

This course is an elective that counts toward receiving a digital badge for the AI Literacy Education Program.

*Disclaimers:

This course utilizes Adobe tools which are available to faculty, staff, and select student populations. Students will need to ensure they have access to Adobe apps before attending this workshop.
Adobe Firefly and Express are accessed via the web, so you do NOT need to download Adobe Creative Cloud.

Objectives: In this course, you will learn to:

Understand the basics of AI image and layout generation technology
Write descriptive prompts and use visual style options to generate images that meet their needs. (Adobe Firefly)
Write effective prompts to generate elements for graphic design. (Adobe Express)
Understanding of general best practices for visual design while we use Adobe Express
- Accessibility considerations (color contrast, font size, etc.), creating compositions (weight, size, repetitiveness, spacing), and exporting files

Duration: 90 minutes

Experience Level: Little or no familiarity with generative AI tools or visual design necessary

Join CREATE members and SF State undergraduate student researchers for a discussion about how to get started in research and creative activities and the opportunity to try out research and creative tools in the Digital Media Studio/MakerSpace. Hear from your peers about why they decided to get involved in research, what benefits they have gained from the process and what advice they have for getting involved. Students will have an opportunity to engage with 3D printing, micro-controller robotics and VR, as well as audio recording and music production gear. Lunch will be provided.

CREATE @ SF State works with students across all fields from the creative arts to business analytics and science research. It is never too early or too late to start getting involved with research, scholarship, and creative activities at San Francisco State University.
