MathWorks MATLAB

MATLAB 2018b is available to all students, faculty, and staff.

San Francisco State University now has a site license for MATLAB which includes the latest release of MATLAB 2018b, Simulink, and all available toolboxes.

Students, faculty, and staff are eligible to download individual stand-alone copies of the software for each of the machines on which they are the sole MATLAB user (includes university-owned and personal machines).

What is MATLAB?

MATLAB is a programming platform designed specifically for engineers and scientists. MATLAB is a multi-paradigm numerical computing environment. MATLAB allows matrix manipulations, plotting of functions and data, implementation of algorithms, creation of user interfaces, symbolic computing, and interfacing with programs written in other languages, including C, C++, C#, Java, Fortran and Python.

What can you do with MATLAB?

Using MATLAB, you can:

  • Analyze data
  • Develop algorithms
  • Create models and applications

The language, apps, and built-in math functions enable you to quickly explore multiple approaches to arrive at a solution. MATLAB lets you take your ideas from research to production by deploying to enterprise applications and embedded devices, as well as integrating with Simulink® and Model-Based Design.

Downloading MATLAB for students:

Students who want MATLAB can access it using SFSU username and password (you will be required to create a free MathWorks account after logging in with SFSU account) by logging in to  the SFSU MathWorks portal here.

For complete instructions please refer to our AT Help Center document.

Downloading MATLAB for faculty and staff:
Faculty and staff who would like to install MATLAB on university-owned and personal machines can either contact their IT service provider or use the SFSU MathWorks portal.
