AV console overview


Cablecast Instructions

1. Turn on the MAIN POWER SWITCH in the upper right corner of the console.

2. On the top the console is the projector control. Press the POWER ON button ONCE.

The projector will take about 25 seconds to warm up.

On the same control, press the VIDEO button below the POWER button until VIDEO appears on screen.

Closed Captions: Turn on caption switch at the top of the console. (Turn off when finished.)

3. Locate a row of black buttons on the front of the console.

4. Locate the AMPLIFIER (above the VCR).

Check for a RED LIGHT above the PA Power button

Set the Master Volume Control knob to 12 o’clock.

Set the AV1 Input knob to 9 o’clock.

5. Locate the CHANNEL SELECTOR above the amplifier. Use the keypad to enter your channel and press the ENTER button.

You must press ENTER or the channel will not set.  Call 15103 to start your broadcast.

TO SHUT DOWN: Press the POWER OFF button on the Projector Control ONCE. Turn MAIN POWER SWITCH OFF.


VCR/DVD Instructions

1. Turn on the MAIN POWER SWITCH in the upper right corner of the console.

2. On the top of the console is the projector control. Press the POWER ON button ONCE. The projector will take about 25 seconds to warm up.

On the same control, press the VIDEO button below the POWER button until VIDEO appears on screen.

Closed Captions: Turn on caption switch at the top of the console. (Turn off when finished.)

3. Locate a row of black buttons on the front of the console.

Press VCR/DVD (button 2).

4. Locate the AMPLIFIER (above the VCR).

Check for a RED LIGHT above the PA Power button.

Set the Master Volume Control knob to 12 o’clock.

Set the AV1 Input knob to 9 o’clock.

5. Press the POWER button.

Insert your media-press PLAY

Press the VCR/DVD button on the front panel to switch between players

Remember to EJECT your media before you leave.

TO SHUT DOWN: Press the POWER OFF button on the Projector Control ONCE. Turn MAIN POWER SWITCH OFF.


CD Instructions

The sound system in this room is mono. It will not reproduce stereo effects.

1. Turn on the MAIN POWER SWITCH in the upper right corner of the console.

Press the button marked VCR/DVD (button 2).

3. Locate the AMPLIFIER (above the VCR).

Check for a RED LIGHT above the PA Power button.

Set the Master Volume Control knob to 12 o’clock.

Set the AV1 Input knob to 9 o’clock.

4. Press the POWER button.

Press the OPEN/CLOSE button.

Insert your CD and press PLAY.

Remember to EJECT your media before you leave.

TO SHUT DOWN: Turn MAIN POWER SWITCH OFF.


Laptop Instructions

MAKE SURE THE LAPTOP IS TURNED OFF.

1. Turn on the MAIN POWER SWITCH in the upper right corner of the console.

2. On the top of the console is the projector control.

Press the POWER ON button ONCE.

The projector will take about 25 seconds to warm up.

On the same control, press the COMP button below the POWER button until LAPTOP appears on screen.

DOWN ARROW corrects cut off or jumping computer image

UP ARROW activates the NO SHOW function. Projected image will go black. Press again to resume.

3. Locate the VGA connector on your laptop.

Macs require an adapter.

4. Hanging on the side of the console is a black cable.

Attach it to the VGA connector on your laptop.

Line up the connector carefully and do not force the connection. There are very delicate pins inside and if damaged, they can corrupt the image on screen.

5. You can tighten the screws to secure the connection.

Be gentle, don’t tighten them too tight.

TURN ON YOUR LAPTOP LAST.

TO SHUT DOWN: Press the POWER OFF button on the Projector Control ONCE.
Turn MAIN POWER SWITCH OFF. Hang the VGA cable on the hook.


Computer Audio Instructions

1. Attached to the VGA cable is an audio (mini) cable. Plug it in to the headphone jack on your laptop. Make sure the volume is turned up on your laptop.

Press the COMPUTER AUDIO button (#4) on the Input Selector and adjust the volume on the amplifier.

INTERNET ACCESS:
Wired: Use an RJ-45 ethernet cable (AV#C-10) to connect to the data jack in
this room. No login required.
Wireless: Access is available in some SFSU classrooms. To connect, select
“SFSU” from the list of available networks. Start your web browser. You will
be redirected to a login screen.

Local Input Instructions

External Equipment may be connected using the LOCAL INPUT Connections on the front of the console.

NOTES:
This console uses a BNC connector for video input.
Make sure you have the proper connector or adapter to connect your video signal.
This console has a MONO Amplifier.
This means you will not hear stereo playback from any device.

1. Turn on the console MAIN POWER SWITCH.

Turn on the projector, let it warm up and then select the VIDEO source.

2. There are three steps to attaching external equipment: (see images)

1. Connect cables FROM your equipment TO the console’s LOCAL INPUT.

2. Press the Local Input Button (button 3) on the Input Selector.

3. Set the volume.

Turn the Master Volume Control knob to 12 o’clock.
Turn the AV1 Input Control knob to 9 o’clock.

Troubleshooting Information

1. No image through the projector:

Is the Console’s MAIN POWER SWITCH ON?
Can you see a blue light coming from the projector? (If not, the projector is not on)
Check the PROJECTOR SOURCE buttons (VIDEO or COMP)
Check the INPUT SELECTOR buttons (CABLE TV, VCR/DVD, LOCAL INPUT)
The VCR/DVD display (on the front of the player) Does it say VCR or DVD?
Press the VCR/DVD button on the front of the player to switch.
Check that the VGA cable is connected to your laptop securely.
Press the keyboard sequence to activate mirroring (see page 6 in this manual).

2. No Sound:

Check the AMPLIFIER.
Look for a red light over the POWER BUTTON on the right side.
Is the Master Volume at 12:00 and the AV1 Input Control at 9:00 or higher?
Check the INPUT SELECTOR buttons
(CABLE TV, VCR/DVD, LOCAL INPUT, computer audio)
Is there audio on the VHS or DVD?
Is the volume up on your laptop?

3. The computer image is cut off on one side or jumping:

Press the DOWN ARROW BUTTON on the Projector Control on top of the console.
Wait for the computer to resync with the projector.
If that does not work, RESTART THE LAPTOP.

4. No internet access:

Wired:
The ethernet cable may not be working. You may check one out from our office.
Faculty must come to the office to sign for the cable.
Your computer is not configured properly to log on to the network.
Call 81420 for assistance.
The jack may be out of service. Please call our office to report the problem.
Try using wireless.

If these steps do not work, call 81494.
